Local aboriginal artistic talent of all types was on display at the opening day, which kicked off with an aboriginal dance performed by the children of Griffith North Public School.
The dancing was followed by didgeridoo music and another dance by the students of Leeton’s Parkview Public School, who were determined not to be outdone.
After the ceremony people were able to wander around the gallery and admire the art made by local aboriginal artists who had honed their skills at workshops run by the gallery with Western Riverina Arts.
Gallery manager Raina Savage said the end result was one the art gallery could be proud of.
“This is our third regional aboriginal art exhibition and it is one of the most significant and important exhibitions and projects that the gallery presents,” Ms Savage said. “The works here all draw on the artists’ connection to country and Wiradjuri identity.”
