ANOTHER busy time at the Griffith Golf Club over the past week with the annual Melbourne Cup day charity competition last Tuesday. It was sponsored by PHL Surveyors. Unfortunately, the early morning downpour resulted in a small field of 34 players contesting a four person par.

The men’s winners were Trevor Richards, Jason Hampel, Jeff Harris and Craig Lugton with 56 5/8 nett. Runners-up were Andrew Romagnolo, Peter Gill, Brian Corner, and Justin Robertson, 57 3/8 nett.
Kathy King, Liz Graham, Yvonne Couper, Dulcie Knight, 62 3/8 nett, won the ladies section and mixed winners were Lyn and Mike Hedditch, DickThompson and Joe Cudmore, 34 1/4nett
Trevor Richards won the 7th pin, Geoff Campbell, 16th.
Last Saturday’s event was a single stableford. Martin Sweeney, 38, won A Grade, firing 78 off the stick, shooting par 36 out, nailing a birdie on the first. David Kidd, runner-up on 37 points, carding nine pars.
Michael Coleman, 35, won B Grade, draining a birdie on the first in scoring 21 out, ahead of Jim Dickie, 34, with six pars. Roy Catanzariti, 38, was best in C Grade, carding five pars on a countback over Don Hillam, 38, with six pars.
Jason Mmagoci won both Pro Pins and also the par 3 11th. Bill Brown won the 4th, Tony Catanzariti 7th, Ken Alpen, 16th. Vouchers went to 31 points.
Another important day on Sunday - the qualifier for the Volkswagen Scramble. A good field of 88 players turned out. Luke DeValentin, Mitch Howard, Dean Minato, Mark Brown excelled, combining to shoot 15 under par 56 to be top qualifiers with 51 nett.
Jarrod and Nathan Cahill, Jeremy Auld, James Nancarrow, 53 3/8 nett, were second and Ryan Harrison, Corey Saunders, Claude Martigiano, Charles Manning, 56 1/2 nett, third. Fourth were Josh Stapleton, Brad Saunders, Aaron Sergi, Tim Rice, 57 3/8 nett.
The veterans played a single stablefordd last Thursday with a good field of 41 players. David Woodside, 37, won ,0-18 Grade over Albert Donadel, 35. Derek Langford, 36, best in 19-27 Grade over Cec Spence, 35, on a countback over Garry Purcell.
Don Catanzariti won 28-36 Grade on 35 from Dick Thompson, 33, on a countback over Geoff Smith.
Gerry Cox won the 4th pin, Dom Guglielmino 8th, David Woodside 15th. Vouchers to 33. Another single stableford this week.
A reminder that the Riding for Disabled Charity Day is on Friday, November 30, entries to the Pro Shop.
Sacred Heart Catholic Parish is holding an open golf day on Sunday, December 2; a three person ambrose at 1pm followed by a family barbecue. A sheet is on the notice board for entries.
