Coro who entered the game looking for their first win of the season decided to bat first after winning the toss and looked to build with Dean Bennett and captain Rob Rand at the crease.
The start was less than ideal however with Hanwood captain Charlie Cunial dismissing Rand (3) with the fifth ball of the match.
Mitchell Williams-Hedges joined Bennett at the crease knowing it would be important to occupy the crease for as long as possible to give their side a chance.
The pair were able to put on 24 runs for the second wicket before the dismissal of Williams-Hedges (8) signalled the start of a stumble from Coro.
The Cougars lost 4/9 in a spell of bowling from Cunial (5/21) which saw on a hat-trick when he dismissed Tim Rand (1) and Damien Walker (0). Lucas Conlan (0) was able to see off the hat-trick delivery, however, fell the very next ball.
Dean and Jamie Bennett came together looking to get their side back on track and while they were able to get the Cougars to 63 when Jamie Bennett fell to the bowling of Dean Catanzariti it all but ended their resistance.
Catanzariti (3/12) took the wickets of Dean Bennett (24) and Alex Flood (0) while Ben Rowston (2/15) dismissed Andrew Potter (2) and Shane Hutchinson (2) to see the Cougars bowled out for 76 in 18.3 overs.
Hanwood looked to make light work of the chase when Catanzariti and Brad Hornery walked out to try and lay the foundation knowing they had time on their side.
The pair put on 27 runs before Catanzariti (20) fell when he was caught behind by Tim Rand off the bowling of Hutchinson (1/13).
Micheal Crosato and Hornery continued to push their side towards the end goal before Alex Flood struck to remove Crosato (13) but Hanwood were well on their way to victory needing 23 runs to pick up the victory.
While Harry Rowston (3) was caught by Jamie Bennett off the bowling of Flood (2/18), Hornery (25*) and Ryan McWhirter (2*) were able to guide their side to victory with seven wickets in hand.
The outright victory could come in handy later in the season with the 12 points obtained for the win enough to see them leapfrog Leagues into third position on the first grade table.
Hanwood will have next weekend off before taking on Exies in round eight while Coro will continue to search for their first win of the season when they take on Leagues at West End Oval.
