For most people today staying in the same job for 10 years is an impressive feat but for the team at Leo Franco Motors it’s almost normal.
A lot of the sales staff have been with the company for around 10 years with some, like sales manager Andrew Ross, in the business for 16 years but that’s nothing compared to Don Giancotti.
Don has been with the company for the past 48 years – almost to the day. He started on November 7, 1970.
He worked for the dealership before Leo Franco took over 30 years ago.
Don started as a mechanic straight out of school as it was the first job that came up.
“In those days you took the first job you could straight out of school,” he said.
“I started as a mechanic and then went through the place.
“I ended up in spare parts for a couple of months then I went into sales in 1976 under the old owners.”
Today Don is a fleet manager and still enjoys his job. The best part? The people.
“You meet different people everyday,” he said.
“It keeps it interesting.
“I’ve made many memorial sales over the years.”
When Leo Franco took over the Holden dealership 30 years ago he kept all the staff on.
Since then staff numbers have fluctuated due to the nature of the business.
When farmers are doing well and there’s money to be spent more staff were employed and during quiet times, like drought, there have been less.
Today the business has 27 staff, down from 34 due to the current climate.
