Those eligible have until November 16 to submit expressions of interest to work alongside Riverina Local Land Services on the Improving Natural Landscapes project.

Incentives are now available for fencing out existing patches of remnant vegetation, revegetation to create new wildlife corridors and the protection and rehabilitation of gullies, creeks and riparian zones.

Team leader of natural resource management Mark Leary said the project focuses on a range of restoration activities that protect and restore threatened species and ecological communities across the Riverina.

“Many parts of the Riverina region have been developed for broadacre farming, but good quality remnant native vegetation is still present, often on private land,” he said.

“It’s important we manage and enhance these areas for future generations.

“Landholders who we’ve worked with before often have plans to improve their native vegetation, but they aren’t sure how to go about it.

“If you do take part in a project like this we provide advice and assistance from start to finish.

“Some of these projects have very specific areas so I urge any landholders interested in working with us to contact us to see if they are able to apply.”
