Things are expected to get scary in Griffith when the Blue Light Disco makes a creepy comeback. The Griffith Police Citizens’ Youth Club will hold two separate Halloween-themed discos, encouraging plenty of great costumes.
ANIKA AIMING FOR QUEEN BEE
Griffith North Public School student Anika Hussain will show off her spelling prowess at the Premier’s Spelling Bee in Sydney. The 12-year-old earned her place on the list of nine senior state finalists in the prestigious final “spell-down” after fighting it out in regional finals.

Suzy Tucker has celebrated an important professional milestone, reaching her 20th year working at Griffith East Preschool. Now the school’s director, Suzy Tucker started working for the school as a part-time room leader in the 1980s.
RECYCLING STARTS
Griffith’s kerbside recycling collection service kicked off this morning as the first batch of residents in the fortnightly roster put their yellow-lidded bins out for collection.
SLIPS AWAY
Griffith was knocked out of the SCG Country Cup by Wagga, with mistakes in the field costing the visitors any chance of progressing to the next stage.
SIXTEEN YEARS AGO
FIRST OF ITS KIND
A Griffith woman has successfully undergone a spinal operation, which is the first of its kind to be performed in a public hospital in Australia. The patient endured five hours of surgery to have two artificial discs inserted into the spine in her neck.
IRON TEST FOR ATHLETES
During the off-season most athletes take things easy, but for local triathletes Loretta Robertson, Wayne Demery, Mick Marshall and Peter Piccolo it was a time to prepare. In the winter months a training regime of 100km cycle rides, long distance runs and plenty of kilometres in the pool was undertaken by these triathletes in preparation for half ironman events in Forster and Canberra.
