According to Meat and Livestock Australia’s national livestock reporting service numbers lifted with lambs showing the biggest increase.
There were 6400 new-season lambs penned and quality was similar to that of previous sales, with good numbers of finished supplementary fed lambs available, along with the plainer types.
The usual buyers were present and competing in a firm to dearer market. Light new season lambs held firm, making from $144 to $158/head.
Trade weights were $3 to $4 dearer, with prices from $154 to $200/head. Heavy and extra heavy weights were also $4 dearer to receive from $200 to $234/head. Light old lambs sold from $133 to $148/head.
Trade weights were $2 to $5 dearer to make from $151 to $191/head. Heavy and extra heavies were reasonably steady, with heavy weights making from $190 to $205/head.
Extra heavy weights varied in price from $211 to $260/head. Carcase prices averaged from 770c to 840c/kg cwt. Mutton quality was very mixed and Merinos made up the majority of the offering. Merino ewes sold from $108 to $170/head.
Crossbred ewes received from $110 to $166 and Dorper ewes sold from $90 to $124/head.
