After Diggers won the toss and sent Exies into bat Travers Pickmere (4) fell to the bowling of Dean Villata (1/26) with the score on 13, Jamie Winkler and captain Phil Burge looked to get Exies moving in the right direction.
The pair were able to put on 54 runs for the second wicket before Mark Favell picked up the wicket of Winkler (25) before Burge (39) fell soon after to the bowling of Theo Valeri (1/24).
Joel Mulder and Marc Tucker started to rebuild the innings with a 31-run stand before Mulder (13) was dismissed by Favell (3/36) while Aditha Jayasuriya (1) followed soon after when he was dismissed by Ben Watts (1/30).
Tucker kept the score ticking over while Duane Ashcroft (3) and Peter Davis (4) played supporting roles as the Exies side pushed passed 150.
When Tucker (73) was finally dismissed by Leon Vico (1/14), Luke Peruzzi (3/56) picked up the final two wickets of Connor Bock (7) and N Burke (1) saw Exies bowled out for 187 off 39.4 overs.
Watts and Tom Valeri were able to make a solid start to the innings with a 21-run opening stand before Tucker dismissed Watts (12) and Bock (2/36) took the wicket of Valeri (4) just three runs later.
Favell and Theo Valeri looked to rebuild Diggers innings after the two quick wickets and were able to put 20 runs on the board before Favell (13) was dismissed by Ashcroft (2/21).
With the score on 71, Theo Valeri (24) became Ashcroft’s second victim while Jamie Winkler (2/26) knocked over Matt Peruzzi (2).
Wickets falling in clumps would end up being Diggers main issue as after a 26-run partnership between Craig Lugton (12) and Luke Peruzzi (10), Joel Mulder picked up the pair while Bock dismissed Vico (2) to see Diggers fall to 8/105, requiring 82 runs with 63 balls remaining.
Dean Villata (12) added late runs, but it wasn’t enough as Tucker and Winkler claimed the final wickets to see Diggers were bowled out for 122 after 33.2 overs to hand Exies a 65-run win.
