They started with a home game against Bass Hill RSL which they won 1-0 before travelling up to Sydney to take on Mt Prichard JSC in the round of 16.
The game at Marconi Stadium finished level at 0-0 all, and the Hanwood side was able to show their composure as they came away with a 3-1 win on penalties which saw them progress to take on Earlwood.
The visiting Sydney side was able to take the ascendancy in the late stages of the first half and looked to have taken the lead though Ayi Akol but a last-ditch block from Hanwood’s Samuel Sergi prevented the ball from finding the back of the net.
It wasn’t long after that Earlwood was able to break the deadlock with Adrian Cambria scoring a cracker from long range which found its way into the top corner to give the Sydney side a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Hanwood, knowing that it would be vital to strike soon after the break, came out looking determined to get back into the game but were unable to find the finishing touch that was required.
Connor Sully had two chances in quick succession but was unable to keep the shot down before captain Nicholas Zannatta made a break and put the ball into the back of the net only to be ruled offside.
With time running out Cambria scored his second of the game to wrap up the win for Earlwood with virtually the final kick of the game.
