Police believe the vehicle, a white Toyota Land Cruiser, was stolen from a Griffith mechanic near to 4.40am that morning.
It was later used to steal a trailer carrying a buggy and motorbike parked on Wakaden Street, police allege.
Lake Wyangan, Hanwood and Bilbul Rural Fire Service brigades were then called to a grass fire which destroyed roughly 13 hectares of land on a property in Yenda at 10am Tuesday morning.
RFS Operations Officer Michael Borg said they are continuing investigations, however believe the fire was caused by the burning of the vehicle.
“Obviously we are coming into fire season, and any fire such as this has the potential to cause a large amount of damage,” Mr Borg said.
“We encourage anyone to report fires they see immediately by calling 000.”
