A man has been arrested and charged for using and carrying fake notes, after a police recognised him on the street from a witness’s description.

Police were in Willbriggie when they spotted a man matching the description they heard earlier in the day of a man who got away with using a fake $20.
A shop attendant from the Banna Avenue business told police he used the fake note to purchase items on Sunday close to 3.15pm.
Upon recognising the 26-year-old’s clothing, officers searched him and allegedly found three counterfeit $50 notes, nine $20 notes and a pocket knife as well.
Inspector Nick Seddon said the notes were “not very sophisticated” and police were not confident this was part of a bigger issue in the MIA.
“They weren’t very sophisticated, barely average even,” he said of the notes.
“We know that businesses can get busy, however we just want to reiterate the importance of checking notes when you receive them, especially those of the larger denominations."

He was charged with possessing counterfeit currency, using counterfeit money in full knowledge, and being is possession of a knife in public place, and will front Griffith Court on November 14.
