It is expected that this 200 target event will attract a large contingent of sporting clay shooters from around NSW, ACT , SE Qld and Victoria. The shoot has been generously sponsored by a wide range of local and national sponsors that has been organised by Shotgun Captain Jamie Cirillo. More than $7,000 in prizes is on offer. Sections especially for juniors, ladies and veterans will be available to enable members of these groups to compete against each other. Prizes will be awarded to the winners on Saturday for the Dave Wallace Memorial Shoot with the National Sporting Clays Championships being decided over both days of competition. A Shoot Dinner is planned for the Area Hotel on Saturday.
The range is situated atop a rocky hill with cliffs on one side and is unique in Australia. “Dave Wallace was one of the original members who was responsible for the establishment of the sporting clays range more than 40 years ago when he helped establish a Field and Game Club there” explained President Warren Brown.
Sporting clays is a form of clay target shooting where clay targets are presented to shooters to simulate various types of field targets with the clay targets thrown in an assortment of trajectories and speeds. Competitors can expect targets to simulate the flights of ducks, pheasants, driven grouse, springing teal and even fleeing rabbits in single or pairs of targets. To add realism to the targets the traps that throw the clays are situated in the surrounding bush, with the clay targets rising out of the bush into a clearing.
Club members will be responsible for shoot administration and keeping the clay target traps working efficiently. Many of the local shooters are expected to be on the winner’s podium including Frank Tagliapietra, Greg Allen, Jamie Cirillo, Bart Brighenti, Doug Osborne and ‘Sid’ Gugliemino.
