The team consisting of Kayle Panazzolo, Jadha Anderson, Jordan Payne and Mia Paton finished with a time of 51:09 which was only around 10 one-hundredths of a second of the record which has stood for around 20 years.
The girls were the fastest qualifiers so there was a fair bit of pressure on them heading into the final and it was thanks to their hard work in the lead-up.
“We were training once a week on a Friday for an hour for about four weeks,” Kayle said.
“Mia caught up to about third, I caught up a bit, Jordan was running about third, and then Jadha brought it home.”
Teacher Eliza Baddock wanted to thank the work of one of the parents.
“Tony Payne was a great help for the girls giving up his time to help train the girls in the lead-up,” she said.
