MI chief executive officer Brett Jones explained that the company’s automation strategy would deliver automation to all districts across the MIA, with timeframes dependent on funding.
“The automation of our network means we can deliver more water, more efficiently, through a more responsive network, providing customers with the flow rates they want,” Mr Jones said.
“Our customers expect this to be done in the best possible way and at a fair price.
“Consequently, we are undertaking the most ambitious renewal and expansion of our infrastructure in the region’s 106-year history.”

“Modernising our network will increase water efficiency and reduce operating costs helping to keep customer prices down.
“It will also deliver a reliable and responsive service to customers to support growth and meet their changing irrigation needs.”
Following substantial modernisation works in the Griffith area in 2018, works are set to return to the Leeton area next year after the successful automation of Division 3 and the Main Canal in 2017.
These works will include the progressive automation of all channels and farm outlets, with the sequencing of works currently being considered.
When developing the schedule of future works, emphasis will be placed on how to most efficiently deliver the works.
This will be considered in conjunction with the need to generate water savings as soon as possible to assist customers in the short term, as well as through any years of possible low water availability.
MI will be keeping customers updated on the funding outcomes and the proposed sequence of works through the customer newsletter, as well as one-on-one consultation by its engagement team.
