A YEAR after it was cancelled due to wild winds, the Jerilderie Gold Cup is looking to make a big comeback.

This year’s six-race card is expected to attract a strong field of competitors, according to Jerilderie District Race Club’s Alecia Williams.
Racegoers should also expect to see some familiar faces among the competitors, with at least two homegrown trainers indicating interest in the big day.
“Local trainers Ross Purcell and Phillip Sweeney have both indicated that they should have a starter for the Jerilderie Gold Cup,” Ms Williams said.
“Our mounting yard has just been extended and re-fenced which looks fantastic and the track is in great condition.”
This year’s Coleambally Community Bank Jerilderie Gold Cup has a $15,000 prize, while the five other races each have $8000 up for grabs.
The weather is set to further amp up the atmosphere thanks to a mostly sunny 23 degrees forecast for Saturday.
Rachel Braybon returns to judge Fashion on the Field, with $3000 in prizes and strong competition expected across six categories of Lady of the Day, Man of the Track, millinery award, most stylish couple, Miss Racegoer (16-25) and Lady of the Track (25 and over).
Gates open at 11am, with entry for those aged 18 and over priced at $20. Entry is free for patrons aged 17 and under.
Courtesy buses will run to and from the track – starting at 11.15am and last drop-off run at 6.30pm – for a gold coin donation. A 100 Club will also run at the Jerilderie Sports Club on Friday night.
