The Minkey program was successful again with all our players recognised for their contribution with a few receiving individual awards. Liam Wilson was recognised as Most Consistent, Jake Killen Most Improved and Aiden Cave receiving the Encouragement Award.
Our older juniors were also recognised for their individual efforts which saw Ben Sinclair receiving the award for Most Consistent; Hannah Quinn picked up Most Improved and newcomer Adam Taylor securing the Encouragement Award.
2018 also saw a new junior competition take flight with 4 teams putting their skills on display in the back half of the season in a fun yet competitive encounter. In honour of long-term dedication and ongoing commitment to junior development, the competition trophy has been deservedly named ‘The Gail Colling Cup’. Gail’s hard work has done tremendous things for providing the platform that allows our juniors to grow and prosper. The cup was hotly contested but saw Team Extreme secure the 2018 premiership. Team Extreme captain Tanner Cassidy received the highest goal scorer award and it was The Redbacks with their great sportsmanship and respect for the game and officials securing the “Play the Whistle” Award.
Thanks to the GHA committee for their continued support of local Junior Hockey. Also a special mention to WWCHA & Hockey NSW for their development support and resources to provide player pathways via representative opportunities and opportunities for our inspiring stars. From 49 juniors this year we have had 8 juniors feature in representative commitments as well as fielding our own Junior team at Packham Cup.
A massive thanks to Gail Colling & Brendon Sinclair for their continued dedication through 2018 providing leadership and guidance for our upcoming juniors. Also thanks to Mike Connellan for his weekly assistance with our minkey development. Our volunteers are critical to the success of our hockey future and we thank them for the time. Thanks to all our parents for supporting our Hockey program this year and providing the taxis, support and sustenance that is so important.
We also thank our juniors for their dedication and commitment to learning and progressing in the sport. Our coaches enjoy the involvement and the opportunity to foster your development, it is a fantastic privilege to be able to support growth in the future or our game.
