Rylan has Type 1 diabetes, and is doing the Ice Bucket challenge aboard the DANII Foundation’s Jelly Bean Cruise set to educate and empower children living with the disease.
Raising invaluable funds for the DANII Foundation which provides support, education, awareness and lobbing government for finical assistance, the icy dip will be well worth it.
“I just want to help make a difference to other kids like me out there who are suffering from diabetes,” Rylan said.
“Sometimes is hard and sometimes its easy – but it’s not always easy and it can be a real challenge.”
The DANII foundation has made a huge difference in his life, and he wants to give back to the charity so others can be helped like he was.
The foundation was instrumental in lobbying the federal government to kick in the $54 million to fund continuous glucose monitoring (CSG) device subsidies for children like Rylan.
“It is so much easier now, it’s amazing,” Rylan said.
On board the Jelly Bean Cruise, three other MIA children will be joining Rylan after being sponsored by the Murrumbidgee Diabetes Association to travel together around Australia aboard the Pacific Eden cruise ship and travel around Nouméa and Vanuatu.
Bodhi Brady, Rhya Teerman, and Lane Job will be joined with their mothers on this adventure to learn more about their disease with new and better ways of managing it.
They all come together to educate and better prepare the children for self managing their condition for what maybe the rest of their lives.
“My friends do care about it, most of the time if my levels are low in the playground, they’ll go get me a juice or a poppa, they are really helpful and supportive,” Rylan said.
With an expert professional team including Diabetic Educators, Endocrinologist, Psychologist, Dietician and Key-note speakers joins them on-board.
