A group of current and past staff are looking to plan a farewell dinner to farewell the old school name at the end of the year. Next year will see both of Griffith’s public high schools merge to form Murrumbidgee Regional High School.
Committee member and teacher Carl Chirgwin said while staff were looking forward to the future, it was important to acknowledge history.
“As people may be aware, the school is merging with Wade High to become Murrumbidgee regional high school in 2019,” he said.
“We thought, as a staff, we should get anyone who has taught, administered or cleaned the school over our 85 years to to come along and have a bit of a tour of the school, have a dinner and farewell the school name as it is.”

While planning is still in the early stages, current and past staff members have been called on to have their say about the special reunion.
“We’ve tentatively booked in Friday, November 30 and are just starting to get an organising committee together of staff and past staff and school personnel,” he said.
“We want everyone to to come together for a meeting to get it started and nut it all out.”
Current and past staff members and personnel are encouraged to join the committee on Wednesday in the Griffith High School foyer at 3.30pm.
”Come for a bit of a discussion about how we might be able to send the school name off in the best it can be.It’s got such great heritage and history,” Mr Chirgwin said.
“We still have people coming into the school saying ‘I worked there once’ whether that was in the 1960s, the 1980s or in recent times. It’s a chance to come along and meet the staff we’ve got now. For the staff we’ve got now, it would be great to learn about our history.”
