Temperatures fell below zero on Tuesday night, leaving a blanket of frost across most of the region’s lawns and paddocks.
It was so cold in some areas, Griffith firefighters reported they had battled a blaze with frozen breathing apparatuses, not flames, burning their faces.
While September may be just around the corner, residents should not put their scarves and coats away, as a minimum of -2 degrees has been forecast to follow on Wednesday night.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the mercury is set to reach a maximum of 16 degrees on Thursday, before dropping to tops of 13 and 14 degrees across the weekend.
Showers may bring some relief to the parched soil on Friday, as up to 10mm of rain has been forecast in some areas.
But this is set to ease on Saturday.
