The Farrer MP was at a Liberal Party meeting on Tuesday morning, where Peter Dutton challenged Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull for the leadership.
Asked by Fairfax Media who she voted for and for her thoughts on the leadership spill, Ms Ley’s office replied that she would decline to comment because she does not talk about private party room proceedings.
Fairfax stated its information placed her on Mr Dutton’s side.
Deputy Prime Minister and Riverina MP Michael McCormack stood up for Mr Turnbull in Parliament on Tuesday in response to a no-confidence motion from the Labor Party.
“We have confidence in the Prime Minister,” he said.
In a highly emotive speech, he launched an attack on the Opposition instead.
“What do Labor do? They don’t stand up for workers … They should be standing up for farming, they should be standing up for lower energy prices,” Mr McCormack said.
“We’ve got the back of the Prime Minister and the back of the Australian people.”
Across the border, Indi MP Cathy McGowan said the leadership spill had a destabilising impact on the Federal Parliament and the country.
“Good government is very important,” she said.
“This destabilisation is not good government. My electorate is concerned, as evidenced by those constituents who have been in touch to make comment.”
Ms McGowan said work needed to be done instead, assuring the electorate her focus was on rail improvements, energy and Aboriginal recognition.
