The 18 year-old recently lopped off his long hair to raise money for pancreatic cancer, a disease that has touched him personally. 

“A mate passed away – John – because of pancreatic cancer a few years ago. My hair was getting a bit annoying and in my face,” he said. 

“I was going to cut it off anyway, I figured why not do it for charity?” 

Friends, family and community members gathered on Sunday night to watch the big haircut. All money raised will go to Garvan Institute of Medical Research to aid their quest in finding a cure. 

Sam said the evening went off without a hitch. Different people took turns cutting his hair and some opportunities were raffled off. 

“It went really well. We just cut my hair off into six pony tales. It was good to do something good.. I'm just trying to help out a mate. Money goes a long way to finding a cure and doing research,” he said. 

“A lot of my family has got behind me as well. A lot of people who knew Johnny donated. It's good to see everyone come together.” 

There are a few different people he’d like to thank.

“I’d like to thank Ryan McGoldrick. He sourced the guernsey we raffle off and Georgia for helping me out.”
