After seeing the recent slew of fundraisers on the news, St Patrick’s Primary School’s student representative council (SRC) decided they wanted to pitch in.
The group organised a ‘dress like a farmer day’ where every student decided to bring in a gold-coin donation with all money raised headed toward drought relief.
Year Four student Emily Harris wanted farmers across Australia to know Griffith was thinking of them.
“We saw the other places were doing it on the news. We wanted to help and give them some money,” she said.
“We all dressed up like a farmer and brought $5. I’m wearing my Dad’s shirt.”
St Patrick’s school is just one Griffith institution committed to helping out.
Others putting their money where their mouth is:
- Peeches Coffee Lounge: Are selling the below stickers, and will be doing a “Fiver for a Farmer” on August 17.
- Griffith Central will be holding a raffle, and will be running a sausage sizzle on Peeches balcony on Friday August 17 from 10am till 2pm. On the day enter in the raffle for your chance to win $250 to spend at Griffith Central, with all proceeds going to Rural Aid Ltd and Drought Angels through afiverforafarmer.com.au
- Goodstart Early Learning: Are having dress up days next week (August 13 – 17), and are also collecting donations for 'Fiver for a Farmer'.
- Coro Club: The Coro Club and 3 Brothers will be donating $1 from every schooner of Great Northern and $1 from every parma purchased.
- La Petite: Jacinda Violi is donating all her takings on Tuesday August 14.”I will donating 100% of all treatment proceeds to farmers in need!”
- Griffith Central Preschool: doing ”Five for a Farmer” and dress up like a farmer on Monday, August 13.
- Griffith North Public School are doing Fiver for a Farmer Monday August 13.
- The Area Hotel: Doing Parma for a Farmer, aiming for a target of $1,000, for 10 large bales to help drought affected farmers
- The Health Hut: Have a donations jar already almost full to the brim to donate to drought stricken farmers.
- Foodbank: Are organising care-packs and hampers filled with essentials for farmers across NSW. Griffith Foodbank’s Lou Revelant has had a large donation of citrus and potatoes, and say they work with the relevant charities and connections to get the food and supplies where they need to go
