The Annual General Meeting of the auxiliary board was postponed as a result of an inability to fill the key positions on the executive.
If no new members step up to take these positions, the UHA will cease to exist, resulting in the closure of the kiosk and no more iconic activities like the Christmas stocking, Easter raffle, Spring Luncheon and street stalls.
Treasurer Louisa Feltracco said it is “very disappointing” the UHA has come to this.
“Your help is urgently needed,” she implored.
“If at the next AGM meeting there is no nominations for president, the UHA Constitution Rules state that the auxiliary ceases to exist.
“The UHA is holding a big amount of money, and if this position is not filled, it will be given to the closest auxiliary – meaning the Griffith Base Hospital will not benefit from this money.”
With over $1.5 million raised specifically for the Griffith Base Hospital to purchase much-needed medical equipment and patients comfort needs, the loss of the UHA would be sorely missed.
The AGM has been rescheduled to Thursday September 6 at 3pm in the Nurses Training School at Griffith Base Hospital - make sure you come along to help save the UHA.
- UHA President Bruna Ross.
President Bruna Ross said any assistance would be appreciated and prove “mutually rewarding.”
“What better way to contribute to the ongoing well-being of our hospital and the community it serves?” Ms Ross said.
“Any community members with an interest in health care, current or former staff or community groups would be made most welcome.”
All positions vacant include president, vice president, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, kiosk buyer and roster coordinator – a lot of roles to be filled for the UHA’s survival.
The members hope especially to keep the kiosk going, which provides not only sustenance to visitors, patients and staff, but a friendly face when people need one most.
Opening times for the kiosk have been changed, running currently from 9am until 12pm, 2pm until 4pm, with the UHA trying to introduce a lunchtime session from 12pm util 2pm – opening up the kiosk all day.
“But we desperately need people for these shifts,” Ms Ross said.
While the auxiliary has a supportive and experienced committee with a core of volunteers, who for the past 10 years have held the UHA together, they ask the other 120 members and the wider community to step up and share the load.
