Located at the intersection of Old Willbriggie Road, Kurrajong Avenue, Watkins Avenue and Thorne Road, the roundabout is part of the ‘Southern Industrial Link for Griffith.’
It provides an alternative route for heavy vehicles along the city’s southern sector, and all that is left is the opening of the last lane.
Griffith City Council’s Director of Infrastructure and Operations Phil King says while the fifth “closed section” of Thorne Road (East) is now complete, it will not be open until other roadworks are finished – making it difficult to give an exact date.
”The newly constructed length of Thorne Road (East) won’t be opened until interconnecting roadworks are complete,” Mr King said.
The Griffith Southern Industrial Link Road will provide a heavy vehicle transport connection from the Yoogali Intersection west down Kurrajong Avenue, west along Thorne Road, turning North in Bromley Road and reconnecting with the Kidman Way at Lavender Bend.
The entire Griffith Southern Industrial Link will provide an alternative pathway for heavy vehicles to move from east to west of Griffith without having to drive past playgrounds, high schools and other high pedestrian areas.

It was applauded at it’s opening by Griffith residents Dennis and Annette Salvestrin, who have a citrus farm bordering the edge of the roundabout.
“It is magical,” Mrs Salvestrin said at the time.
“[I]t was a long wait but they have done a good job and this will get a lot of trucks out of our town and off our roads.”
