Community members have the exciting opportunity to hear from Griffith native Janine Wood, the Head of Community Engagement for the Invictus Games.
She comes to share her story at the August 15 dinner held by Griffith Soroptimist International at the Exies Club.
After completing her education in Griffith, Janine (nee Rolfe) attended university in Sydney before entering the marketing world. She has worked in sale, management and leadership roles with companies including News Corp, Network 10, TV NZ, and Austereo.
"I am honoured and inspired to be involved with the Invictus Games and I'm passionate about raising awareness about the value the games have on the men and women who served our country," Janine said.
"I'm excited about returning to my hometown and having the opportunity to share my passion and tell the beautiful and humbling story that is the Invictus Games with members of Griffith SI and the local community," Janine added.
The Invictus Games will be held in Sydney from October 20 to 27 this year, with 500 competitors from 18 countries participating in the international multi-sporting event created by Prince Harry for active and veteran wounded, injured, and ill service men and women.
The word ‘Invictus’ is Latin for ‘unconquered’ and embodies the fighting spirit of these people. The Games use the healing power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and celebrate the crucial role played by family and friends.
The dinner will be held at the Griffith Exies Club from 6.30pm. Bookings are essential.
