The festival is a chance for women to come together to celebrate their culture and have a good time.
Organiser Birpal Brar said it draws inspiration from an Indian festival celebrating dance.
“It used to go for a month. All the girls would get together to celebrate everything back home. They would enjoy the time of year,” she said.
“If anyone wants to participate we have a bit of a stage program at the beginning for anyone who wants to perform. At the end we get together and put on a bit of a show.”
People would travel from far and wide to attend, she says.
“Ladies used to get together and just sing and dance. It’s just for a nice get together,” she said.

“Married ladies would come back home, stay with their parents and see their old friends. It used to go for about a month. Now we just celebrate on one day.”
Last year’s event was a smash hit, with hundreds gathering at the Yoogali Club to enjoy the day.
Ms Brar said the festivities are also a great way for young people to connect with their heritage.
”It’s a part of their history for the kids. This way, it gives people a break from their lives every day,” she said.
The invite is also extended to any interested women.
“Even for people from other communities, if they come along they can get to know our culture,” she said.
“It’s open to any women, whoever wants to come.”
Morning tea and lunch will also be provided to guests.
The festival kicked off on August 18 at 11am at the Yoogali Club.
