A GERMAN company has its eye on Leeton shire, believing it is the perfect location for a new solar farm.
ib vogt is proposing to develop a commercial scale solar farm located roughly one kilometre north west of Yanco and on the south-western outskirts of Leeton, within the Leeton Local Government Area.
The Yanco Solar Farm – as it would be called – would have a capacity of approximately 72 MW (DC), would occupy approximately 200 hectares of land and would connect to the Yanco Transgrid Electrical Substation (to the south east of the project site) via a new 33 KV transmission line.
The site would be accessed from the east via Research Road on the southern boundary of the site, which connects to Irrigation Way.
Company spokeswoman Jenny Walsh said preliminary environmental investigations had been completed and a draft site design is underway.
“As the proposal is a ‘state significant development’, environmental assessment requirements have been requested from the secretary of the NSW Department of Planning and Environment,” she said.
“ib vogt would like to hear from members of the local community regarding the solar farm proposal to get an understanding of (their) values and for people to raise any concerns.
“We are holding an information drop-in session in Leeton on (Thursday) where plans of the solar farm proposal will be on display with members of staff available to answer questions.”
ib vogt is a German engineering company headquartered in Berlin. It has been active in the large scale solar industry since 2002 and in Australia since 2016.
The estimated assessment and project timeline is:
- Detailed environmental assessment: August – November 2018.
- Yanco Solar Farm Community Open Day: Thursday, August 9.
- Submit development application and environmental impact statement: late 2018/early 2019.
- Receive development approval: mid 2019 (approximate).
- Commence construction of solar farm: late 2019/early 2020 (approximate and dependent on development approval).
The information session will be held at the Leeton Shire Council chambers from 1pm to 7pm.
