Griffith City Council is proceeding with plans to establish a new rose garden next to the Visitors Centre at a cost I understand to be significant. Any improvement to that site is a plus, but it raises the following two questions.

One: could that prime CBD site be put to better use?
Two: could the Griffith economy get a bigger boost by allocating the funding towards another local project that would prove to be a more popular and unique tourist attraction for visitors?
Common sense tells me the answer to both questions is "yes".
I strongly believe that the proposed rose garden site could be and needs to be put to better us as a car park. The nearby fire station will eventually be re-located, so a longer term view of the overall footprint of that entire space and it's optimal use needs to be taken into account now.
There is an urgent need to restrict cars from parking outside Griffith Central on Yambil Street as it's become a very dangerous and congested tight space. The solution is a car park nearby – it's a no-brainer.
Commissioning suitable artists to paint the green water tank on Scenic Hill with a timeline of Griffith's history trumps a rose garden as far as a tourist attraction goes. Imagine the number of extra tourists and dollars that would bring to Griffith. Pioneer Park visitor numbers would also get a boost, not to mention the memorable impression it would have on visitors and business people who fly in and out of Griffith.
Griffith expects and deserves better financial decision making from our elected councillors. It seems like not much thought went into this and hopefully my comments will result in councillors having a re-think and move to make better use of that space and spend the money in a way that Griffith will see greater economic benefits.
Will common sense prevail? Time will tell.

WEATHER THWARTS RARE OPPORTUNITY
The Age reported that the moon eclipse on Saturday (July 29) would be very rare. The eclipse was predicted to start at 4.24am and continue for more than an hour and half.
This type of moon eclipse was occurred in 741 AD and will not occur again for thousands of years in future.
The moon would be be fully covered by the shadow of the earth and there will be complete darkness, but the moon would look red. The paper also gave the photo of the moon in eclipse.
Mars was to be seen greater and scientists were watching the planet’s northern and southern caps. Mars is looking greater these days and will continue to do so until September, as it becomes nearer to Earth.
The Age also reported that in Melbourne arrangements were made in some parks so that the people can see this rare phenomena.
I thought of watching this rare phenomena, so I got up at 4.35am and went outside in the backyard of our house I was very sad because the moon was covered by dark clouds. In disappointment, I came to my bed.
Again I went out to see the moon at 5am but it was still covered with dark clouds. Again I went out at 6.05am for the third time But the moon was still covered. I was very disappointed because I could not see this rare phenomena of nature.
