The group, made up of 20 breast cancer survivors, have come together form Boobs4Brains. They plan to money for the Charlie Teo Foundation, a non-profit working toward a cure for brain cancer.
The group feels the education and awareness surrounding different types of brain cancer is severely lacking.
Frances Franco says the group have been working hard behind the scenes to bring their first event – a ball and auction – to life.
“We’re launching the calendar that night. We’ve got some auctions happening. It’s more or less for people to have a good time, to get up and dance while raising some much needed funds,” she said.
She says the prizes on offer a pretty unique too.

“We’ve got a scrub up with Charlie T’eo. I spoke with him on the phone and they were happy to give that out.”
Since launching the initiative in April, the group lost a dear friend – Lisa Monahan – to brain cancer.
Mrs Franco feels there’s definitely not enough understanding of the way brain cancer works or who it affects.
”Last month we lost our beautiful Lisa to brain cancer,” she said.
“I didn’t know much of it myself until I read up about it. Brain cancer doesn’t discriminate. We need more funding, more research,” she said.
All proceeds will go the to Charlie Teo foundation to support working towards a cure. According to the foundation’s website, Dr Teo formed it because he wanted to “shake-up the way we raise and use funds in brain cancer research”
The last few months have also seen individuals and businesses go above and beyond to help, she says.
“Griffith and surrounding towns have been just so generous. It’s a bit overwhelming with how it’s all come together,” she said.
“We’re very grateful to everyone that’s donated. We can’t thank them enough. You just get to know people and they tell you their stories.”
The Boobs4Brains calendar launch charity ball will be held on 22 September at 6:30pm.
