With the two sides separated by two points heading into the meeting if either side were able to pick up the three points, it would go along way to securing the fourth position in their favour.
West Griffith had the better of the match, and coach Rhys Jones was left a little frustrated at full time.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game, they defended well,” he said.
“We dominated the game. There were probably 10 minutes of the game where we hadn't dominated. We have chance after chance we just didn't take them.
“We are still missing a few players and had three pull out this morning, so that wasn't ideal. But the boys dug in, and they worked hard, and I couldn't have asked any more of them.”
Wests’ Gavin Wylie looked the most likely to break the deadlock and came the closest as on a number of occasions he was able to break through the Hanwood defence, but the final shot let him down.
Jarrod Savage was another with an excellent opportunity to give his side the lead after he was picked out by a cross from Wylie, but a last-ditch tackle from Hanwood’s Dane Pasquetti prevented him from having a clean strike at goal.
The draw means the gap between the two sides remains at two with Hanwood FC Two sitting in fourth spot, but Jones said even if his team got the win today not much would have changed.
“We knew that either way whether we got the three points or the draw we knew we would still be in limbo,” he said.
“It is a good battle to have towards the end of the season. Every game for us in now a finals game. The boys know what is required.
“I have a few players in the team who have played finals, and a few of them played in that grand final last season so they know what it is about and they want to be there.”
Jones felt that while it was a great team effort, it was his middle field which really stood out.
“Andrew Febo in the middle of the park was outstanding along with Dave,” he said.
“It is good to have him back in the side and Gav Wylie as well. He caused them all sorts of problems going forward.”
With two rounds to go the fight for fourth looks set to go right down to the wire with Hanwood FC Two facing games against Yoogali SC and Yoogali FC Two.
Meanwhile, West Griffith will take on Yoogali FC Two at Yellow Tail Park next weekend before coming up against Yoogali FC One in the final round of the season.
