Moss will bring that smooth, sweet sound into Griffith Regional Theatre on Friday 17 August, 2018 with an intimate acoustic performance.
While primarily recognised as an axeman of tenacity and sweet melodic sensibility, Ian’s distinctive vocal is the essential signature of his soulful, bluesy muse – as it has been since his first tentative foray into music during the early 1970s.
Born and raised in Alice Springs, Ian started playing guitar in local teenage bands before moving to Adelaide in 1973 where he saw an advertisement in a shop window, looking for a guitarist.
Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Raina Savage said, “When Ian Moss answered that advertisement he became an integral part of the band that was to become an enduring legend in Australia and would make an indelible impact on the Australian music psyche forever. As a member of Cold Chisel and a renowned solo artist, Ian Moss is a virtuoso performer and a true icon of Australian music.”
Almost 30 years ago, he stood aside from Cold Chisel and released his first solo album, Matchbook, which featured the massive radio single Tucker’s Daughter.
Moss has since released five incredible and dynamic studio albums. Apart from the number one, multi-platinum, Matchbook, Worlds Away, Petrolhead, Let's all Get Together and Soul on West 53rd.
This year brings a new chapter in Ian’s career as he releases his sixth studio album, the self-titled, Ian Moss, and he is heading to Griffith, armed with his acoustic guitar to present these incredible songs.
The songwriting sessions for the material were done in Nashville with Sydney’s Sam Hawksley who now lives in Nashville as part of seminal US folk-rock outfit, the Bo Deans.
In 2007 he told the Sydney Morning Herald, "I haven't made my definitive album yet."
Ten years later with the self-titled Ian Moss, he might have just done that.
Ian Moss is performing live at Griffith Regional Theatre on Friday 17 August 2018 at 8pm. Tickets are $60.00.
