Griffith and Leeton’s Seventh Day Adventists’ youth and members joined with the Pioneer community and Family and Community Services (FACS) to help clean-up residents yards, sprucing up their areas with maintenance and mateship.
They worked from 9am until 1.30pm in around four backyards – stopping only when the skip bin, provided by FACS, was full to the brim.
Pastor Adam Tonkin and Youth Group Leader Fusi Fidow hope to do more days like it very soon.
“We have a youth group in our Church and they have been helping out a lot in this community to clean the area up,” Mr Tonkin said.
One of the best parts of the day for Mr Fidow was seeing the children in the area come and help out as well, having a go at some of the machinery and enjoying working with the youth group.
“There has been a growing rapport with residents in the area, the youth have been working with them for a while – mowing lawns and cleaning up, and every now and then we run a program where we buy some chips and hang out with the young ones there and play games,” Mr Fidow said.
