It’s a case highlighting the shocking statistics released by NSW Ambulance, detailing six out of every 10 incidents of assault and abuse experienced by paramedics involved suspected alcohol or drug use.
The paramedics called police when they were attending to the 25-year-old man, who continued to display increasingly aggressive behaviour towards them, punching the side of the ambulance vehicle.
When police arrived at the scene, the man proceeded to bite one police officer before punching another two officers as they tried to restrain him.
He was able to be subdued and was conveyed to Griffith Base Hospital with possible drug intoxication indicating an overdose.
Three police officers were physically assaulted and received treatment for their resulting wounds.
The man remains in hospital but will be questioned by police when discharged.
