Round Six of netball didn’t quite go to plan last Saturday, with the weather having a major impact on the day’s proceedings, as evidenced by the many soggy score sheets received.

Wet weather always presents a challenge for the committee and Saturday was no different with games going ahead at 10am as planned. However, the conditions quickly deteriorated and by rounds end, all games had been abandoned.
The 11am timeslot was slightly better, with two games commencing in very unpleasant conditions. Credit goes to The Gems and Midstate Gunn Accounting who played through until half time before
The Gems could not continue. The brave Beko and 3C Stars girls played a full game with Beko taking the win in a tight battle. Good job all round girls!
By midday the miserable conditions had improved slightly and all teams took to the court. Benny Mahon Constructions scored a big win in the 8/9 years, R and B Diggers won in the 10/11 division and Xquisite Diamonds took a win in the 12/13 age group. In The Athletes Foot D Grade, Caesars recorded a four goal win over the AES Rockets.
With the sun trying to come out and the courts drying, the 1:10pm slot also saw all four games underway. Bardney Metal Fabrication won over Stegglers and JBS Thunderbirds defeated Vaccari’s Bakery by 29-28. Prior to today’s games, JBS were occupying top spot on the ladder, with Vaccari’s in second, so this close result goes to show that games in this division can very much go either way, which is making for a very good competition each week.

By the start of the 2:20pm games the rain was back, with a heavy shower denting the enthusiasm of many players as they took the court. All eyes were on the threatening clouds moving in over Jubilee, and the very rapid onset of thunder, lightning and hail saw all games cancelled soon after, in an unexpected end to the afternoon.
The news was greeted with a cheer and soon after the courts were transformed into a sea of white ice and water in what was quite an extraordinary day at Jubilee – the home of netball in Griffith.
