And, as we went to meet with Cr Dal Broi to discuss the details, we bumped into Teresa Alves and Augusta do Carmo Soares, two East Timorese ladies who currently work as tomato pickers, and reside at a hostel – due to lack of housing and accommodation options.
Cr Dal Broi had a chat with the ladies before the interview to learn more about them and their circumstance.
He said the best way to address the housing issue is to hold a forum for discussion with the means to find, or attempt to find, a solid resolution.
Griffith City Council will therefore be holding a community consultation on the housing crisis at the Griffith Regional Theatre on July 3.

Real estate agents, developers, bankers, councillors, building societies, the business chamber are among the list of guests to invited to join in on the forum.
Cr Dal Broi said the forum is a chance to build and maintain good relationships with those interested parties, with the greater goal of helping the community in the long term.
The event will include a number of presentations by speakers, such as Cr Dal Broi, General Manager Brett Stonestreet, and the Director for Sustainable Development Phil Harding.
Cr Dal Broi said, “Anyone involved in the front line of providing housing” will be invited.
One main focus for the forum is addressing the issue of available land.
While Cr Dal Broi doesn’t believe an answer to the housing crisis will be found at the forum, he encourages interested parties to come by, voice their concern, and take part in a transparent discussion on an issue which has been at the fore of many Griffithites’ minds.
He also hopes to gain a better understanding of the issue and how each party is affected.
