Touring Griffith’s PCYC, scheduled for major upgrading with the announcement of $3 million in NSW Government funding, Mr Grant got shown the ropes by one of Griffith’s young boxers.
While Member for Murray Austin Evans did the official hosting, it was Billy Collis putting the minister through his paces, testing his strength in the ring.
Mr Evans said he was thrilled to have the Minister in town to personally show him the PCYC facility.
“I’m excited about the funding for our PCYC in the upcoming budget and I’m delighted the Minister can personally get a first-hand look at the club before the works get underway,” Mr Evans said.
“Once the works are complete, the Griffith PCYC will have a brand new multi-functional activity space enabling a variety of activities.
Mr Grant said it was great to return to Griffith with positive news for the community.
“As an ex-police officer I know first-hand how invaluable the work of PCYC is with our youth and I’m very proud of this investment in the future generations of the Griffith region,” Mr Grant said.
Griffith SES receive welcome boost
In a move that will see Griffith shine as the heart of SES training, Mr Grant announced $5000 grant for the NSW SES Griffith unit.
SES Region Controller Colin Malone welcomed the cash injection, proud of the difference it will make for the Griffith unit.
“I’m very pleased to be able to provide a grant to the Griffith NSW SES unit to go towards an asset that will train local personnel and volunteers in critical lifesaving rescue skills,” Mr Grant said.
Mr Evans thanked Minister Grant for the additional funding injection for NSW SES which will benefit all local emergency services agencies including other NSW SES units from across the region.

The grant will be spent on the Regional Urban Search and Rescue and Industrial and Domestic Rescue training facility, and will go towards lighting, signage and safety features on the site.
