The Heritage Green Energy Grants will offer up to $100,000 each to sites to help them become more energy efficient.

“These Heritage Green Energy Grants will offer up to $100,000 per application to help owners or managers of heritage buildings that are listed as a heritage item at a Council or State level to bring these places up to speed when it comes to energy efficiency,” Mr Evans said.

“Building age, materials, type of construction, size, shape and site orientation all play a role in how heritage buildings perform in terms of energy efficiency, so this program will incentivise building managers to think about how their building can be improved.”

Save the Nurses’ Quarters advocates Sherene Blumer and Neville Dwyer are currently seeking a heritage listing for their beloved building.

And, after examining the grant announcement, they are more determined to get the Nurses’ Quarters added to the heritage list – to make it the first heritage-listed site in Griffith – and ensure the building become self-sufficient with solar tiles, batteries, and water tanks.

“It could generate its own power as a stand-alone facility,” Mrs Blumer said.

They note other sites in Griffith should apply for heritage listing and grants.

The grants, totalling $1.5 million, aim to make heritage items more energy efficient.

Mr Evans encourages heritage-listed buildings to consider applying.
