The Swans broke the game open in the third quarter and ran out comfortable winners, 15.10 (100) to 5.11 (41) at Maher Oval.

The win gives Griffith five straight wins to the start the year and also the scalp of a top five team heading into their club bye.

The Swans got on top in the midfield and then again let their running game do the talking as the Swans ran in eight goals to one in the second half.

Turvey Park were competitive early but dropped away in the second half as they crashed to their second consecutive defeat.

Teenage forward Lucas Conlan again played a starring role but inaccuracy in front of goal cost him any more than his three-goal haul.

Fellow Swans teenager Isaac Campbell kicked three goals and enjoyed an impressive game, while Sam Daniel was dangerous and finished with four.

Griffith coach Will Griggs was pleased with another polished performance.

“Absolutely, it’s always nice to come on the road, all the way to Wagga, and get a win,” Griggs said.

“In the end it was pretty convincing. It was a pretty tight first half, a bit up and down really, we had a bit of momentum then they came back at us. But our second halves all year have been strong and we always felt like we could open the game up.

“I think we went away from a few things in that second quarter, a few simple things that we know when we don’t do it, it hurts us and hinders our flow and our running game but we spoke about it at half-time, that’s the best thing about half-time you get to regroup.”

Griffith, traditionally, and like most teams, have struggled on the road but the win over Turvey Park was their third away for the year.

“We made a statement at the start of the year that it doesn’t matter where we play, it’s no excuse really,” Griggs said.

“Whether it’s Saturday or Sunday, it’s football day and if you can’t get excited when you play footy then what can you get excited for really?

“Everyone is really enjoying their footy and feel like we can do something special if we stick to it but it’s still only very early.”

The Swans will now enjoy the bye, before a top of the table showdown with Collingullie-Glenfield Park.

“I was looking at the draw the other day, if we can keep getting a few more wins before the halfway mark, we have five of our last seven at home,” Griggs said.

“And I know a lot of people don’t like coming all the way to Griffith.

“If we can keep winning early games it will hold us in good stead for the second half of the year.”

The only injury concern for Griffith was concussion to Nick Witherspoon.
