The Sharks were level with the Greens at halftime, and Jaden Kelly gave a straightforward explanation for his side’s second-half performance.
“We probably just got out-enthused by a younger Leeton side is the best way to put it I think,” he said.
“The loss was always going to come, and hopefully it wakes the boy up a bit.”
The games don’t get any easier for the Sharks as they welcome the Waratahs to town on Sunday. The visiting side is coming into this game off the back of a bye last weekend. The Waratahs had shown themselves to be the side to beat and have only been pushed once this season when they played Leeton two weeks ago and came away with a six-point win.
Kelly is under no illusion about the difficulty his side will face this weekend.
“In that Waratahs team, they are all pretty lethal,” he said.
“They all possess skills, and you can’t just focus one player. It will be a tough task, and they are definitely the team to beat.”
While not using injuries as the reason for the loss against Leeton, the Sharks will be able to welcome back a key component of their side.
“We were without Sandon (Gibbs-O’Neill) last weekend, and he should be back,” he said.
“He keeps the side moving forward, and he is another attacking option on that side of the field. We just need to go back to playing simple footy and see how things go from there.”
Not only will points be crucial for the Sharks as they look to keep pace with the top of the table Waratahs, but they also need to be careful not to fall back into the pack with West Wyalong and Yenda level on points with TLU.
The action out at Lake Cargelligo will get underway with the under 16s with the first grade kicking off at 3pm.
