Not only will the sculptures be eye-catching and tourist drawing, but it’s a chance to “give back to the community,” according to 2nd Griffith Scout Group Leader Silvia Shaw.
“The scouts have been participating in this community tradition for over 20 years, and the scouts always have a great time,” Ms Shaw said.
“While we have had the same sculpture for a while, when we are done assembling our own the scouts will then go around and help others with their sculpture – it’s a great way to help out others, build comradery and giving back to the community.”
The scouts, ranging in ages eight to 18, are only one group of dedicated sculpturists taking part.
Now in its 23rd year, the Real Juice Company Citrus Sculptures display has grown rapidly from its humble beginnings of five sculptures to over 70 large 3D sculptures and draws thousands of visitors to the city every year.
Griffith City Council Events Coordinator Karly Sivewright, said now was the ideal time for organisations wishing to enter a new sculpture, as part of the Griffith Spring Fest 2018, to start thinking about how they can make a statement.
“We’d love to see everyone think outside the box and get creative, even a bit quirky, it doesn’t have to relate to your business,” Mrs Sivewright said.
“We want to draw visitors’ attention. Just think, would a visitor want to take a selfie with my new sculpture?”
Applications for new and existing sculpture plans are due by Wednesday 1 August 2018.
“We are looking forward to seeing all of the new sculptures this year and watching our event grow,” Mrs Sivewright said.

Chair of the Tourism and Events Committee Christine Stead said the citrus sculptures were a wonderful opportunity for businesses to capitalise on the influx of visitors.
“I urge locals to take advantage of this and promote their business using the sculptures,” Cr Stead said.
“Thousands of visitors come to town for Spring Fest and most of them stop by and take photos that they usually post straight to social media.
“It’s a fantastic way to get exposure especially if your sculpture stands out as something a bit different.”
Construction day for the Real Juice Companies Citrus Sculptures this year will be Sunday October 7 from 7.30am, with dismantle taking place on Sunday October 21 at 7.30am.
