Wagga general manager Peter Thompson said council would go it alone for the time being after missing out on its preferred east-west organisation.
“We’re sitting out at the moment, doing an informal arrangement with Wagga co-ordinating strategic planning along an east-west alignment with Carrathool, Griffith, Leeton, Narrandera, Snowy Valleys and other councils as well,” Mr Thompson told The Daily Advertiser. “We’ll see how it plays out, but I’m advocate of (the joint organisations), the regions will be better of for them.”
The OLG spokesman “strongly encouraged” Wagga, Snowy Valleys, Narrandera and Carrathool councils to join a joint organisation quickly.
“Joint organisations will be a key mechanism through which the government delivers important programs and funding to regional NSW,” he said. “Sixteen councils have voluntarily joined the Riverina or Riverina-Murray joint organisations and shown strong civic leadership by signalling their intention to work together and with the NSW government for better regional outcomes. These councils will have a seat at the table in planning infrastructure and investment for their region, with support and funding from the state government.”
