Griffith Young Professionals is the brainchild of a handful of Griffith-based residents looking to introduce a similar initiative found across many regional cities across the country.
Organisers say the initiative aims to connect fledgling business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals from a broad range of local industries, while also better offering opportunities for those new to the city to join new social circles.
The group aims to encourage any residents to join, despite age or occupation.
NSW/ACT Young Achiever of the Year finalist Luke Piccolo threw his support behind the group during its inception. He feels the group is a great step for the town’s young people.
“As a young business person – who is very proactive in the community – I’m super happy to host the event and happy to be involved in the group because anything that helps young professionals and young people wanting to strive, especially in a rural town, I think is good,” Mr Piccolo said.
“I think it’s a great initiative – I think it can benefit a lot of people.”
Jessica Ammendolia is one of the original members of the newly-formed group.
Her return to her home town in early 2017 left her wanting to engage with new like-minded people, but she struggled to find the connections she was looking for.
“The whole reason we developed this group is to bring young people in Griffith that have some form of drive. Whether it be someone with an entrepreneurial streak, a business owner, some kind of trade, or a university degree,” Ms Ammendolia said.
“We wanted to bring all of these like-minded people together in the same space.”
She says the event is open to anyone with a drive to succeed in their career, regardless of their field of work or study.
“If you’re from Griffith or recently moved here, this is a good way to informally talk to people who might have been in similar situations, or could show you how to take your business or career to the next level.”
The Griffith Young Professionals launch event will be held at Limone restaurant on Thursday, May 31 from 5pm-8pm. T
