After some early pressure in the game, Hanwood found their footing and Erik Listmann scored at the 17th minute.
The pace of the match then picked up as Yoogali was determined to make a mark before the end of the first half. Yet, Daniel Johnson twice ruined Yoogali’s chance for a goal.
A foul at the top of the box within the final minutes of the first half gave Yoogali the opportunity for an equaliser, but their free kick cleared the post.
There was no reprieve as both teams powered through at the commencement of the second half and continued their onslaught.
Zane Huxley came back with the equaliser for Yoogali at the 49th minute. This feat renewed Yoogali’s resolve and the team moved into overdrive. Yet their chances at scoring further goals were crushed, and some players resorted to desperate slide tackles.
Hanwood denied another opportunity for goal at the 70th and within the span of only a few minutes, referees handed out three yellow cards, illustrating the frustration that resonated throughout the pitch.
At the 83rd minute Hanwood took another goal, and at the 89th minute – the blow to stifle the Yoogali visitors – the final goal was made.
Hanwood had the greater physical presence throughout the game yet coach Jason Bertacco thought it came down more to ‘luck’.
“I’d say today we probably got the luck of the bounce at the end of the game,” Mr Bertacco said.
