She was honoured by Mayor John Dal Broi, who spoke highly of her leadership as Australian Paralympic flag bearer.
She says the support and love she’s received from Griffith in recent months has meant the world.
“I’ve had more than one home town in my life, but none quite like Griffith,” she said.
“The support from the people of Griffith is always amazing … I like to think I carried them with me to PyeongChang and I will carry them with me wherever I chose to go next.”
Council presented Ms Badenhorst with a special commemorative frame.
The world No. 1 already had already history in so many ways.
Ms Badenhorst was the first woman selected as a Paralympic flag bearer.
Ms Bandenhorst was headed into PyeongChang Winter Paralymipics with high medal hopes, but they were dashed after the the 23-year-old dislocated her left knee cap and caused ligament damage in a training crash.
Badenhorst won an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Crystal Globe in February for banked slalom and sealed the overall Globe too, signifying she was the best performed athlete over the World Cup season just ended.
