It was a 109-point victory to start the season in what was a dominant start from a side who didn’t let the game slip even while holding a commanding lead to see 10 goals kicked in the final term to come home with the comfortable win.
The side is only set to get stronger with veteran Micheal Duncan available for selection after serving his one-game suspension.
The Swans champion was suspended for striking Collingullie-Glenfield Park’s Jayden Klemke in the Swans preliminary final loss to the Demons last season.
The return of Duncan posses a problem for the coaching staff at the Swans after their dominant start to the season.
The selection story looks very different in Ganmain with the Lions set to be without recruit Josh Bubnich after he accepted a two-game suspension.
Bubnich entered an early guilty plea and accepted a two-game suspension after he was reported for rough conduct in GGGM’s round one loss to Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes.
Bubnich was reported for a sling tackle in the second quarter that left MCUE opponent Charlie Chambers concussed.
Meanwhile, GGGM schoolboy Matt Knagge looks set to miss the game after he broke his jaw in two places following an incident with MCUE’s Trent Cohalan.
The first grade wasn’t the only side to make a winning start to their season last weekend as reserve grade, and the under 17s made a positive start.
Three goals to Lachlan Killalea, Kris Duncan and Todd Argus proved the difference as reserves came away with a 17.16 (118) to 5.1 (31) win over the Eagles.
It was a strong performance from Dean Bennett who kicked six goals in the under 17s to help the Swans to a 17.10 (112) to 6.8 (44) win over the visitors.
