The modern facility caters to beginners through to advanced skateboarders, BMXers and WCMX (wheelchair) riders, and will provide a safe and inclusive environment for everyone.
Griffith skating enthusiast and competitor Todd Tengstrom expressed his excitement build’s initiation.
“There has been a lot of consultation with local skaters and scooter riders, so it’s great to have been listened to and and our needs catered for,” Mr Tengstrom said.
“For it’s size and budget, the facility definitely punches above it’s weight. It’s a park that a lot of kids will enjoy and I myself will use to practice.”
BMX rider Matt Spencer from Griffith was also excited to see construction start.
“We’ve been involved since the start of the project, and we are finally seeing some action, and in a couple months it will be up and ready to ride on,” Mr Spencer said.

Work on the facility was made possible thanks to a $330,000 grant from the NSW Government’s Public Reserve Management Funds (PRMF) program.
Griffith City Council Mayor John Dal Broi said he is thrilled for work to begin.
“This will be a fantastic facility for Griffith and an exciting space for both new and experienced skaters and riders to hone their skills,” Cr Dal Broi said.
“It will provide an excellent area for young people and families from right across the region to come and spend time outdoors.”
Member for Murray Austin Evans said the skate park will provide improved skating and BMX facilities for Griffith and the surrounding region.
“The community has been instrumental in designing the new skate park facility, which will include a skate bowl and plaza, social spaces and high quality landscaping,” Mr Evans said.
Minister for Lands and Forestry Paul Toole said the PRMF program is providing vital support for the development of Griffith’s youth precinct.
“The Griffith skate park is a perfect example of what we want to achieve with this funding. It will provide a genuine public benefit to the community, particularly for younger people in the region,” Mr Toole said.
“The PRMF program provides support to Trust managers to maintain, protect and improve our Crown reserves for the benefit of the entire community.”
