It was a cracking goal from Wests’ Dave Del Gigante which opened the scoring after he blasted a long-range shot into the top corner of the net.
Hanwood led a fightback through their young players as Ryan McWhirter and Michael Cimador combine after a mistake from the Wests defence to see Cimador score his first of the day.
Cimador ensured that his side had the lead going into the break after Erik Listmann and Sevi Tropea combined well out wide to get a cross into the box for Cimador to head home.
Hanwood continued their goalscoring form in the second half as Cimador turned provider with Daniel Rogato scoring his first.
The game was all but secured for Hanwood soon after when Demetrio Torino won the ball back in midfield and played the ball into a wide position for Listmann to provide a cross for Daniel Draskovic to score the Blues fourth goal.
Ryan Zanata and McWhirter score a late goal each to see Hanwood come away with a 6-1 win.
Coach Jason Bertacco was pleased to see his side able to piece they came together in the second half.
“The first half was very rusty, nowhere near where we should be,” he said.
“Credit to the boys we were able to get the three points and get through the game.
“The second half was a lot better and a lot more positive, but we are a work in progress.”
After scoring two goals and providing an assist, Bertacco was full of praise for the performance of Cimador.
“Him, Sevi Tropea, Adam Close and Dem Torino they were the big four today especially in that first half when we were under the pump,” he said.
“ They all really carried the team on their shoulders. It's a positive with Cimador only being a young buck. To be carrying the team and vice-captain this year it is really positive.
“To be doing this in round two once he gets fitter and stronger and we get the boys to training it's a positive and they will start working around him.”
Bertacco handed a debut for 15-year-old goalkeeper James Glennon and said it was good the club was able to give these guys opportunities to play.
“It's pretty good to be able to give young blokes like that a go,” he said.
“It's a positive for the club, it is the only way to strengthen a club bring in the younger blokes.”
Hanwood Blue will now prepare to take on Yoogali FC One while Wests will take on Yoogali FC Two.
