Different community groups came together to put on an evening of fun. Centacare’s Joanne Fitzpatrick said the event introduced many new friends.
“It’s about bringing people from different backgrounds together to share each other’s company, sharing food and having time where they can come together,” she said.
“I think it went really well. I really loved there was a great mixture of different families from different cultures. Everyone participated and joined in.”
Kids enjoyed playing on the playground, games of volleyball were organised and the NSW Fire and Rescue showed off one of their trucks.
Griffith resident Ali Hassan attended the event and says he enjoyed the unique opportunity.
“Everyone is excited. There was good food, there was plenty for kids to play with and lots of people gathering together,” eh said.
“There were no differences.”

Harmony Day is celebrated across Australia. It pays tribute to the country’s multicultural heritage. The day coincides with the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
More than 70,000 Harmony Day events have been held in churches, businesses, government agencies and schools since 1999.
Ms Fitzpatrick says Griffith’s multicultural history means it’s important to give different groups the opportunity to interact.
“Griffith is a places with a lot of different cultures. It’s good to provide an evening where everyone can come, get to know each other and have a little bit of fun.”
