For the Cougars, it will be the third grand final appearance in a row and captain Haydn Pascoe is keen for his side to pick up the win this weekend after finishing runners-up in the previous two deciders.
“Our record over the hasn't been real good so getting the win on Sunday would be pretty good,” he said.
As for this weekend’s opponents in Exies, they were able to see them off in the major semi-final, but Pascoe knows his side will have to improve in a few aspects if they want to take home the silverware.
“We didn't bowl real well, and we didn't field real well either,” he said
“We scraped over the line, and it could have gone either way, and we were lucky enough to come away with the win.
“I think we bowled 40 sundries in the first innings. It's hard when anything down the leg side is a wide, but I think it was our 40 to their 20 which makes a big difference.”
Exies captain Phil Burge knows there is a need for personal improvement if they are to come away with their second piece of silverware for the season after they took out the Twenty20 competition before Christmas.
“I have probably got to bat better and bat for longer periods,”
“We lost wickets in clumps, and you can't afford to do that.”
It was that pattern which almost cost them the preliminary final against Leagues when Exies found themselves in a precarious position of 6/16 before Joel Mulder and Craig Burge steered them to victory.
The one cloud hanging over Exies heading into the decider is the fitness of crucial bowler Andrew Arnold who has been struggling with a leg injury.
“Andy should be right for the weekend hopefully,” he said.
“He is a pretty handy bowler for us and is an important member of the team.”
