While the junior sides are already three rounds into their season, this weekend will be the first real test for the seniors as they look to improve on their first season in the competition.
Rhinos coach Gabriel Abdala said his players are eager to get the season underway.
“The players feel like they are in a better position heading into this season compared to last year,” he said.
“They are going in knowing what to expect and what is expected of them.”
The coach is also pleased to see how the side is progressing following their preseason trials.
“They have really started to get their head around how we want to play,” he said.
“They are also starting to show belief in each other which will be crucial for the side.”
The quality of the visa players the club has brought in also has the head coach excited heading into the first game.
"They seem to be settling in pretty well,” he said.
“The players we have brought in have played at a pretty high level in their home countries which means they are in a good position coming into the side.”
Tuggeranong rounded out their preparation with their Charity Shield match against Canberra Olympic which Abdala had a close eye on in preparation for this weekend’s match.
“Tuggeranong looked to be fielding what looked like a reserve side,” he said.
“In saying that I expect them to come out and play the same style of football they did against Olympic this weekend.
“It is always a hard match against Tuggeranong, and they are one of the stronger clubs in the competition.”
The two games against the United outfit last season ended with a draw and defeat, but Abdala was confident in his side’s ability to pick up the three points.
“We are coming out to do one thing, and that is win,” he said. “Winning the first game is probably one of the more important things because it can set the foundation.”
